  • Most of you will know del.icio.us and I’m sure that some of you are using this service. So installing this module in your Moodle, you would be able to create mini-delicious activities inside your courses to do some kind of WebQuest.

    The main idea is that students search information about a topic using the World Wide Web and share whatever they find with their partners. Using this tool, links can be tagged and organized easily.

    NWiki/DFWiki is a project conceived and leaded by Ludo (Marc Alier) in the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya to build a new wiki wiki module for Moodle.
    It started on Feb 2005 and still goes on now.

    This alternative Wiki module (called also new wiki or NWiki) is the evolution of DFWiki to fit in Moodle 1.6/1.7/1.8./1.9/2.0 replacing the standard wiki module.
    The Moodle roadmap places NWiki as the official Wiki module for Moodle 2.0.

    All the NWiki/DFWiki development has been done within the frame of degree
    projects in the Computer Science Engineering studies in the FIB school
    (http://www.fib.upc.edu) of the UPC University (http://www.upc.edu) in
    Barcelona, Spain.

    The main developers that have worked in this project are:
    * Ferran Recio
    * David Castro
    * Jordi Piguillem Poch

    And a growing number of students that contributes to this project.

    NWiki/DFWiki has the same license as Moodle, that is, the GNU GPL v2 license.

  • The CAMPUS project, promoted by the Secretaria de Telecomunicacions i Societat de la Informació (STSI) of the Generalitat de Catalunya, is born from the will of eight Catalan universities of having a virtual campus in free software and under the license of GPL (General Public License). This campus should allow offering higher education both in a completely online fashion and combining online and offline.

    This initiative wants to become an international reference in the field of e-learning because – among other issues – it will support up to 10,000 users connected at the same time and its user interface will be designed following user-centered designed methodologies; taking into account issues such as usability, accessibility and content personalization.

    The CAMPUS was born within the Catalan universities system and will be open to the world. The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya is responsible of the coordination and the technological leadership of the project and will be developed taking advantage of the knowledge and experience that each partner can bring to it.

    This project is part of the Digital University program promoted by STSI. The goal of the program is to facilitate the transmission and sharing of knowledge via the information and communication technologies.

    The CAMPUS is developed by several groups from the Catalan universities and its duration is of 18 months from the 1st of April of 2006, when the development of the project was officially opened.
